Marita brings an interesting mix of skills to Crimson-Jade Consulting. She is not your typical marketer. After studying Economics and Management at the University of the West Indies in Barbados, where she gained First Class Honours, she opted for a career as business writer. Working for 2 years on the business desk at the Barbados Advocate Publishers (2000) Inc. in Barbados, she honed her writing skills and learnt just what it took to get journalists interested in a story.
The Barbados Advocate was not her first foray into the world of journalism. At the young age of 15 she gained her first internship working as a reporter on the news desk at the Nation Publishing Co. Ltd. in Barbados. Throughout her career she has maintained her passion for writing by continuing to write for newspapers, blogs and newsletters.
Marita pursued her MBA at the Simon Graduate School of Business, University of Rochester, in 2007 with a vision towards gaining a strong managerial skill set. It was at the Simon School that she began her love affair with marketing, gaining a strong appreciation for the critical role it played in the survival of any business.
Specialising in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, she recognized that for marketing to be most effective it had to help businesses get closer to achieving their overall objectives. Expensive, beautiful communications campaigns were useless if they could not be directly linked to generating revenue for businesses. Her solid business training gave her a unique outlook on how marketing could be smartly integrated into a business strategy to help drive sales. Her training is the reason that she insists on marketing accountability.
Marita has taught in the Economics department of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus as a part-time tutor of Introductory Mathematics, Microeconomics and Statistics over 2005 and 2007 and then in 2009. Currently she teaches the Principles of Marketing course in UWI’s new MSc. in Mananagement programme.
Marita is a proud member of the Variety Children’s Charity of Barbados.
Kathy-Ann is a driven marketing professional with a passion for delivering good value for money. She is devoted to providing marketing that produces real results. Her diverse professional background allows her to contribute a range of talents to the Crimson-Jade team.
Her studies in History at the University of the West Indies in Barbados has given her the capacity to find ingenious ways to solve problems and think creatively.
Following her studies in history she spent an engaging year working within the legal field as a legal secretary flowing from an interest she held while undertaking an Associate Degree in Law from the Barbados Community College. This has helped her hone her critical thinking and writing skills but also during this period she gained her initial interest in marketing.
Her interest in the world of marketing was further developed through a year studying at the University of East London pursuing a Master of Science in International Marketing Management. Here she decided that the world of communications is perfectly suited for her.
Her time as an Editorial Executive at the Barbados Advocate strengthened her communications skill set and allows her to develop skills in design.
